Today at St. James we celebrated First Communion for the second grade class. As Father Al lifted the bread and wine to heaven, the most beautiful ray of sunlight came thru the window. I was blinded for a moment and even had to shield my eyes. It brought back a very sweet memory for me...about you. Many years ago, praise God almost four, I was praying in church, alone and sitting quietly. Just as I looked up to heaven and prayed to God for his will to be done, a blinding ray of sunlight came thru the window and it truly startled me. It was then that I knew... you were going to be alright. Now, almost four years later, I had that very same feeling again today. God took the time today to remind me of his promise. As I sat in the pew today crying to myself, somewhat embarrassed, but never the less proud to be experiencing it once again. You are a gift of life that keeps on giving. True story.....Many moons ago, on a hot summer's day I was at the lake standing knee-deep in the cool gentle waves. I happened to notice that not far from me on the shore there was a beautiful monarch butterfly dancing in the sunlight. I watched in wonderment as he flitted from a small log pile, to a rock, to a bunch of wild daisys growing on the beach. His brilliant orange and black wings, never resting, lifted him higher and closer. I was mesmerized by his joy for living, his curiosity of the world around him and his eagarness to take it all in. He bravely ventured out over the water with nowhere to land, and continued zig-zagging in my direction. I stood perfectly still...just watching. He came to be directly in front of me - no more than a foot away - and seemed to pause. He then circled me twice in a dizzying display of playfulness. Then, as purposefully as he came, he finished his ring-around-the-rosie...and flitted off. I was left there, still motionless, though not out of fear of scaring him away anymore. Now I was momentarily frozen in time to be changed forever, motivated and inspired by his spirit, his beauty, his love of life and his bravery. You, Madison, are too such a creature. God bless.
